Community / support / S3Drive 1.9.12 fails to launch on Windows 10

I looked through the channel and found that I have a similar problem with a blank, white window: the latest version, 1.9.12, of S3Drive won't launch on Windows 10 (with the latest updates). It functions properly on iPhone and the browser-based app (same OS where I run the desktop app). I also attempted to run it from PowerShell, but it doesn't display any debug messages, and I couldn't locate any parameters to enable verbose mode. The Event Viewer doesn't show any alerts either. I even tried downgrading to version 1.9.11, but I still encountered the same issue with an empty window and "S3Drive" in the title. There are no changes on the OS side. After install I also rebooted the system. Issue persists. I use the lifetime version with rclone and regular storage defined.

Thanks for your report. By any chance, could you try resizing the app window after it starts? I know that in helped to resolve this white screen issue for some users.

Thanks for the hint. It did not help. I also tried to change the display scaling from 150% to 100% but also did not work. Maybe flutter related?

In a couple hours I will provide you test build with most recent Flutter version. It does indeed address some issues on Windows: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/blob/stable/CHANGELOG.md flutter/153321 - [Desktop] Fixes an issue where older Windows devices could not run Flutter apps built using Flutter 3.21 or later. The things is that it was about black screen, not white screen: https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/153321 ... but it's worth trying anyway. I will let you know pretty soon.

Thanks. Maybe also think about supplying a debug build so that maybe an error message could get captured. White vs. black screen could be because of dark and light theme maybe?

Please find the new build: https://github.com/s3drive/windows-app/releases/tag/1.9.12%2B1 Can you give it a go and let me know if this has helped? Regarding the dark/light theme, it's possible, however just before there is other window initialization which is probably white regardless of these settings, so it really depends on which layer things fail. Technically some CLI output shall be released by our release build. It's strange that you don't get any output from Powershell, we would need to check it ourselves and perhaps do some steps to explicitly enable it (if it's not already).

Hi again, by any chance has newest release helped to address your issue? Thanks!

Sorry. My laptop needed repair. I installed the update and same issue.

I created a new user on my Windows 10 install and there I could open S3Drive. Maybe it is related to some state that is persisted?

When I move away the directory C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\com.s3.drive.file.explorer.storage.cloud.manager\S3Drive I can open the program. But of course loose all my settings. I have to login again and get my settings from remote!? (edited)

Needed to enter E2E details but all seems to work fine.

We will be updating couple dependencies and updating logs to understand what might be causing this issue. It looks to us like some permission issue to log files that stops the app. You could try starting the app form the console (by going to the install directory and running the .exe) and see if anything pops up in the logs. We will be providing an update in 1.9.14 version released next week. (edited)
